“As a New York City public official for almost forty years, I’ve worked with thousands of bright and energetic college and high school students eager to learn about civic leadership and how they can work to improve their communities. These young people have greatly impressed me with their intelligence and resourcefulness, and I’ve seen many budding public policy scholars go on to distinguished careers—some working for the public good right here in the city.”
Gale A. Brewer
Manhattan Borough President
The Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer is looking for students, at the high school, undergraduate and graduate levels, to participate in government as part of her energetic, collaborative and innovative team. Prospective interns must be committed to seeking out new and better ways for the office to connect with, and deliver for, Manhattan’s diverse neighborhoods, communities and constituents. Interns will gain public service experience in a wide variety of professional areas including public policy, communications, constituent services, law, land use, social work, administration, special events planning and community relations.
Interns will work individually and in groups on a wide range of projects that advance the goals of each unit: Communications, Community Affairs, Policy, and Land Use. Meetings with Borough President Brewer, staff, and other professionals will offer interns additional opportunities to become engaged in policy debates on issues facing Manhattan. Flexible scheduling is available. Please visit our Join the Team page for more information.
