Jimmy Breslin made our city a better place because he made life worse for those who exploited, those who took advantage, those who were all talk. He would argue with me if I called him ‘classy’ but that’s a very good definition of class in my book.
His words were driven by his heart — and it showed in thousands of newspaper columns and a handful of very good novels. He was born in Queens but his adopted West Side loved him nonetheless. That’s because his anger and outrage were rooted in empathy.
My heart goes out to his wife Ronnie, his children and stepchildren and grandchildren.
