Brewer says no to Lenox Terrace rezoning proposal

NEW YORK – Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer issued her formal ULURP recommendation [1] on the zoning text amendment proposed by the Olnick Organization for its rezoning application to facilitate the development of 5 new buildings located at the Lenox Terrace complex. In her recommendation, she rejected the proposal because it came without adequate public and private investments.

“There are few instances where a development the scale of the one proposed by Lenox Terrace Development Associates can be viewed as responsible,” said Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer. “This proposal promises to change the physical and socioeconomic character of Central Harlem while ignoring the concerns of stakeholders and urban planners in the community, and as a result I must urge that the proposal as written be rejected.”

In her recommendation, Brewer outlines the following steps the developer could take to improve their proposal, among others:

The Lenox Terrace rezoning proposal requested 5 actions to facilitate the development of 5 new 28 story mixed-use buildings.
