The City Council approved a measure to close the mechanical void loophole in many Manhattan residential buildings. The Dept. of City Planning (DCP) is currently formulating plans to address other kinds of loopholes, including minimum lot sizes and unenclosed voids.
DCP will likely issue their plans in several land use applications, but I believe a holistic conversation about these loopholes is needed. That’s why my office is conducting a public hearing from 6:30 – 8:30 pm on Thursday, July 11, 2019 in my office at 1 Centre Street, 19th Floor South.
