In June 2020 groups organized by local artists @Go2ART2heARTist & SoHo Social Impact brought hundreds of artists to paint on boarded-up storefronts across SoHo. Three of the works now featured in a new exhibition at the @MuseumofCityNY!

I think every month is Black History Month; last m I think every month is Black History Month; last month I collected these great resources for teachers, families, and history buffs alike to use year round.

Black History Month began in 1915, when historian Carter G. Woodson began the “Negro History Week” to honor the contributions of African Americans. He chose the second week of February to pay respect to two Americans who changed the lives of African Americans forever. Former President Abraham Lincoln’s tribute falls on February 12, while former enslaved person and social reformer Frederick Douglass’ remembrance lands on February 14.

Thank you to all the educators and contributors that submitted such wonderful resources for us to share!

This month we celebrate the women on whose shoulders we stand.

The history of this city is filled with women who fought against oppression, shattered glass ceilings, & boldly opened doors for those that came after them.

Proud to join the Asian American Federation (AAF) Proud to join the Asian American Federation (AAF) in speaking out against the anti-Asian violence that has impacted Asian Americans since the start of the pandemic, creating great fear and anxiety in our community.

We are just around the corner from the site of Thursday’s vicious attack on another Chinatown resident. I’m glad his attacker was found, but we know this incident will not be an isolated one. You are not alone in standing up to this hate. Racism and xenophobia have no home here.
