I’m glad that the Mayor has so quickly put a plan together to achieve Vision Zero. In Manhattan, we started an outreach process already, working with each of the 12 Community Boards to identify known traffic hotspots and recommend remedies for DOT to implement. Any safety programs going forward must also include audible, accessible pedestrian signals– which, I’m proud to say, is mandated by a law I wrote.… Read more
I commend the decision by the NYC Board of Elections to limit the number of languages on ballots to three. This will allow for a more readable ballot for all New Yorkers, while preserving language options for voters who prefer a non-English ballot. While this does not diminish the need to pass comprehensive ballot redesign at the State level, the NYC Board of Elections should be congratulated for their work… Read more

Citywide proposals such as lowering the speed limit will help, but a plan that will work has to be detailed and… Read more

Manhattan’s 12 community boards are local organizations composed of 50 volunteer members serving staggered two-year terms. Community boards are tasked with being the independent and representative voices of their communities—the most grass-roots form of local government. The boards are pivotal in shaping their communities and work to enhance and preserve the character of the city’s many unique neighborhoods.
