We covered a lot at my State of the Borough event focused on what an urban agenda looks like today, like expanding broadband access, improving bus service, addressing gentrification, and improving immigrant graduation rates.
I spoke about the work my office is doing and moderated a panel featuring former Counsel to Mayor de Blasio Maya Wiley, former Daily News columnist Juan Gonzalez, Center for an Urban Future chief Jonathan Bowles, and Asian American Federation leader JoAnn Yoo. We also heard Susan Scheer of the Institute for Career Development speak about the challenges facing the disability community and Uzodinma Iweala talk about his work as the CEO of The Africa Center.
Trying to protect our neighborhoods and landmarks, save our storefronts, create truly affordable housing, keep folks in their homes, make sure everyone has a decent place to live, and allow communities a real voice makes protecting the state of the borough challenging. Thank you to all who attended the event or participated online. MNN aired the event live and they are editing the video now. I will post a link to the video on my website and social media in the coming days. You can read my remarks here .
