Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer issued the following statement on the passing of former New York State Court of Appeals Chief Judge Judith Kaye:
“As the first woman to serve on New York State’s highest court — and the first woman to lead it — Chief Judge Judith Kaye established herself as one of New York State’s finest public servants, one of the country’s preeminent jurists, and a true trailblazer.
“She was also my friend, an Upper West Sider, a member of Congregation Shearith Israel, and a wonderful human being. She shaped the laws we live by, but she also made our city and state better places to live by serving her community in all ways.
“Her forward-thinking and hard work should inspire us all.”
