Tuesday, June 2, 2020 Curfew Update

There is a mandatory citywide curfew tonight from 8PM until 5AM and every evening until Monday, June 8, 5AM. While I understand impetus for a curfew, increasing police presence and adding another reason for police to make arrests only increases the criminalization of our population.

There will be no vehicular traffic allowed south of 96th Street in Manhattan — with the exception of residents, essential workers, buses, and truck deliveries. The FDR Drive and the West Side Highway will be closed.

Those exempt from the curfew include: health care workers, law-enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians, those working at businesses deemed essential during the coronavirus pandemic, including grocery stores, convenience stores and pharmacies, people seeking medical treatment or obtaining medical supplies, homeless people living unsheltered on the street and homeless outreach workers, faith leaders and the press.

The following activities are permitted: restaurant and food delivery, and taking dogs out to use the bathroom, but only in the immediate vicinity of your home. Yellow or Green Taxis operating between 8pm and 12:30am MUST be transporting an essential worker.
