Sion Papi by Anne Fernandez will be on view at Dyckman Farmhouse Museum through FRIDAY, AUGUST 15TH!

Anne Fernandez, a Dominican-American filmmaker and Uptown-based multimedia artist, is the winner of our 2025 Open Call for Art on Immigrant History, Culture, and Experience for her remarkable submission, Sion Papi.

Sion Papi is an animated documentary that follows the story of Anne Fernandez who, after the death of her father, embarks on a two-month journey to return his ashes to his homeland— a place she hasn’t set foot in for sixteen years. As she navigates this journey in an unfamiliar country, Anne begins to discover who her father really was during the years he lived there.

Sion Papi beautifully unfolds as a personal essay in stop motion form— an intimate meditation on intergenerational storytelling, reconnection, and healing.

The exhibition at Dyckman Farmhouse Museum features a screening of Sion Papi alongside a glimpse into Anne Fernandez’s creative process in making the film.
