The Park Avenue Vision Project moved forward last week after the city approved $39 million outlay to advance the redesign of the avenue’s iconic median. As proposed designs circulate publicly, New Yorkers are split between enthusiasm for a pedestrian-friendly greenscape and concerns about traffic congestion and a potential bike lane.

Though his his Facebook post certainly reignited the debate on NYC biking, Borough President Hoylman-Sigal did not personally weigh in on the bike lane debate.
“I know some local community members have expressed interest in having a bike lane through this corridor —which is understandable since there is no bikeway on Fifth Avenue — but there is opposition to a bike lane, as well,” he said. “At this point, I would urge the community to make their preferences on the bike lane and other aspects of the proposal on the NYC DOT Park Avenue Vision Plan website.”
