About the Film:
Elijah, a coming-out story of a second-generation Bengali-American who desires to live life fully as a man in a trans-phobic immigrant culture. Inspired by a real-life story.
About the Director:
Razid Season is a Bengali filmmaker whose work often focuses on identity, history, and marginalized communities. Born in Abu Dhabi, raised in Dhaka, and currently based in New York, he works across cultural and social perspectives in his storytelling. His short film Kaddish has screened at various venues, including the Holocaust Museums, and has been included in the Visual History of the Holocaust archives.He has also served as a juror for the PLURAL+ Youth Film Festival, an initiative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). His recent film Elijah continues his interest in human-centered narratives.
About the Organization:
The Asian American / Asian Research Institute (AAARI) was established on November 19, 2001, by The City University of New York (CUNY) Board of Trustees, in a resolution introduced by Chancellor Matthew Goldstein. The Institute is a university-wide scholarly research and resource center that focuses on policies and issues that affect Asians and Asian Americans. It covers four areas: Asian American Studies; East Asian Studies; South Asian Studies; and Trade & Technology Studies.
About the Event
The program will feature a screening of a 20-minute film followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with the director. The event is free and open to the public, but RSVP is required.
