Manhattan BP Levine Calls for 2025 Rent Freeze Amid ‘Unprecedented Affordability Crisis’

NEW YORK, NY – Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine today strongly urged the Rent Guidelines Board to vote for a rent freeze for rent-stabilized tenants in 2025, declaring “enough is enough” after three consecutive years of rent increases.

“We are facing an unprecedented affordability crisis that is driving families out of their homes. The Rent Guidelines Board must act accordingly and vote for a rent freeze for rent-stabilized tenants in 2025. After three years of increases for tenants, enough is enough.

“Wages continue to lag behind inflation, and costs for food, healthcare, and daily necessities continue to rise. For the nearly 2.5 million New Yorkers living in rent-stabilized homes, many of whom are low-income or elderly, any increase in rent may be too much to bear. We cannot stand by while our neighbors are priced out of their homes.”
