Major structural replacement work on the MTA’s Park Avenue Viaduct in Upper Manhattan has been completed, Gov. Kathy Hochul and MTA staff announced on Monday, adding that the work was done “60 months ahead of schedule and $195 million under budget.”
The work entailed crews having replaced 196 bridge structures and more than 12,600 feet of railroad over 28 weekends since October. 2023. At a cost of $765 million, the project aims to enhance the reliability and resilience of the corridor, which runs from the Park Avenue Tunnel at East 97th Street to the Harlem River. It supports approximately 750 trains and 260,000 passengers each day through one of New York City’s most constrained rail corridors, Hochul said.
